這款酒的特色在於可以一次品嚐到Nikka集團兩大蒸餾廠，因為主要基酒來自於‘余市’與‘宮城峽’的麥芽威士忌，余市的比例佔得比較重。首席調和大師‘久光鐵二’創作出充滿和諧的純麥滋味，讓更多酒迷發現竹鶴威士忌的不同凡響，於2012年3月22日在倫敦獲得WWA的最佳調合威士忌獎項，這是竹鶴威士忌第5年獲得此獎項，而這次得獎的酒款為「竹鶴17年」
